TeraRecon Delivers Complete iNtuition Cardiac CT Workflow to Any PC at ACC 2008

SAN MATEO, CA--(Marketwire - March 25, 2008) - TeraRecon, Inc. (www.terarecon.com), a leader in advanced image-processing technology and 3D visualization solutions, today announced the release of new innovations in its flagship Aquarius iNtuition™ platform, to be showcased at the upcoming American College of Cardiology (ACC) Annual Meeting, held at McCormick Place, Chicago, from March 29th to April 1st 2008.

At ACC 2008, the global cardiology community will meet to present and discuss new innovations in cardiac care, including the incorporation of CT imaging into their diagnosis and treatment protocols. CT technology has made possible a wide range of new imaging procedures that offer a less-invasive and more comprehensive alternative to conventional techniques such as catheter angiography. In the process, these procedures generate huge volumes of images which have to be managed and manipulated as a part of the diagnostic interpretation process. TeraRecon solutions provide the means to support such interpretation and the subsequent communication with surgeons and interventionalists, by providing full cardiac workstation capabilities available on ordinary PCs anywhere in the enterprise. The complete suite of capabilities that are "available anywhere" includes calcium scoring, advanced vessel analysis, functional assessment, plaque analysis, EP planning and clinical collaboration capabilities.

Aquarius iNtuition provides a comprehensive suite of cardiac CT tools all through a thin-client interface called Aquarius iNtuition which can be deployed and operated on any PC throughout the healthcare enterprise. The Aquarius iNtuition Client is powered by a central AquariusNET™ server which is capable of managing over 27,000 CT slices in a single server, with multiple-server configurations readily available. This uniquely powerful architecture allows TeraRecon to deliver a cardiac CT interpretation and distribution system that integrates seamlessly with cardiology PACS solutions, while delivering powerful decision support through automated preprocessing, advanced interpretation tools for the diagnosing physician, and simple yet rich and interactive web-based distribution tools for disseminating the results of interpretation efficiently to their intended recipient.

TeraRecon's automated preprocessing system, AquariusAPS, automatically identifies and labels cardiac anatomy, and then performs automatic segmentation and centerline extraction, to prepare the examination for the speediest diagnostic interpretation. Streamlined and customer-tailored Workflow Templates speed the process of navigation through the dataset so that the physician can apply their time and concentration to the clinical interpretation of the studies.

Results from the Aquarius iNtuition session can then be delivered to any referring physician via the included enterprise-friendly, browser-based AquariusWEB viewer. JavaScript technology delivers the results in a rich, interactive but optimized package directly through their web browser. The AquariusWEB viewer can be deployed via a simple URL link, making it possible to seamlessly embed the viewer into an EMR or physician portal for secure delivery in the correct patient context. It is even possible to open and display these images on a JavaScript-capable PDA or on a tightly-controlled PC in an operating room.

"TeraRecon has always been at the forefront of advanced tools for Cardiac CT interpretation, and in the wake of the recent decision by the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to abandon plans to limit reimbursement for this procedure, we anticipate great interest in this procedure at ACC this year," said Robert Taylor, Ph.D, TeraRecon president and COO. "From our early work with cardiac CT pioneers dating back to 1997, TeraRecon has now developed a fully-capable advanced visualization workflow platform, Aquarius iNtuition, which supports acquisition, preprocessing, diagnostic interpretation, and delivery of live, interactive, 3D reports to the interventionalists and surgeons who are the ultimate end-users of the CT imaging data. Since we utilize the most powerful and widely-used client-server technology in the industry, we are confident that Aquarius iNtuition offers unparalleled performance, functionality, and workflow integration for advanced cardiac CT imaging, and as such that it represents the best-in-class and most complete solution for interpretation and management of Cardiac CT studies."
