Teridian Launches Industry's First Complete Energy Measurement Chip for Home and Enterprise Solutions

Sets Bar for AC Power Measurement Solutions With Best in Class Accuracy and Self Calibration

IRVINE, CA--(Marketwire - May 13, 2009) - Teridian Semiconductor today announced the availability of its first system-on-a-chip (SoC) for power outlet measurement and monitoring. The 78M6612 (6612) extends Teridian's extensive smart metering product line with a new class of integrated circuits (ICs) designed to help end users understand the AC power they are consuming. The 6612 enables duplex AC power measurement for use by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) of home automation products, as well as enterprise OEMs for servers, power supplies, power distribution units and communication equipment.

Teridian has a long history in energy measurement with over 20 years of innovation in the smart metering arena and is leveraging its proprietary technology in this first of a series of chip solutions. The 6612 offers best in class accuracy of +/-0.5%, over a 2000:1 dynamic range, with self calibration to help facilitate rapid design time and optimal manufacturing efficiencies.

"Intelligent energy consumption begins with accurate and meaningful measurement," said David Gruetter, Teridian chief technology officer. "The first step to achieving efficiency in energy consumption is measurement; without measurement, control cannot be achieved. In order for consumers or enterprises to learn how to be more energy efficient, they must first have the ability to track and analyze the power they are using."

The 6612 is a highly integrated, single phase, AC power measurement and monitoring SoC, which includes a 32-bit compute engine, an MPU core, real time clock, and FLASH memory. Teridian's patented Single Converter Technology™, with a 22-bit delta-sigma ADC, and digital temperature compensation, supports a wide range of single phase, dual outlet power measurement applications, on only 25mW of power. Complete firmware is available along with reference designs to enable rapid development of power and energy measurement solutions that meet the most demanding worldwide standards.

78M6612 sample and production quantities are available now and priced at $2.89 in quantities of 100, for 64 pin LQFP and 68 pin QFN packages. 6612 demo kits are also available. For more information on the 78M6612 product line and other products from Teridian, please visit www.teridian.com.
