Teridian Sees Bright Future for Energy Measurement Chips in the Home and Enterprise Market

Shadowing Electricity, Teridian Finds the Measurement for Success

IRVINE, CA--(Marketwire - March 24, 2010) -  Teridian Semiconductor, an industry leader in energy measurement, control, communication and advanced metering infrastructure, is looking to build upon a successful 2009, which marked the introduction of its energy measurement products for the home and enterprise. Having already established a leadership position in the smart metering arena, the logical next step is to move inside the home and enterprise. The response has been overwhelming as energy measurement continues to be a primary concern among businesses and consumers alike.

According to Gerald Fitch, Teridian Semiconductor president and chief executive officer, the goal is to follow electricity wherever it goes. If power is being used then it can, and should, be measured. With this in mind, the possibilities for Teridian's integrated circuits (ICs) are numerous, and the company's 30 percent year over year revenue growth is helping to set the pace for acceleration into new markets.

Today, Teridian has leveraged its technology innovation in smart metering and applied it to measure energy in home automation networks, power distribution units for data centers and even home appliances like washing machines, dryers and refrigerators. The key to intelligent energy consumption is accurate measurement, and Teridian has achieved unparalleled technological milestones with its ICs, including best in class accuracy of 0.1 percent over a 2000:1 dynamic range. For consumers this translates to the ability to measure even the smallest amounts of energy usage.

Teridian's system on chip (SoC) solutions are in use today by more than 60 metering manufacturers and on more than 120 metering platforms. To date, Teridian has shipped in excess of 41 million units and has the largest market share of SoC metering devices, which are noted for their high reliability, design efficiency, ease of integration and cost effectiveness.

Fitch was recently named one of GreenTech Media's 100 Movers and Shakers of the Smart Grid, a list of the top 100 people influencing the smart grid market on a daily basis. He commented, "There is a growing desire by consumers to conserve energy consumption throughout the home and enterprise, and the first step toward achieving smart energy consumption is through accurate measurement. We're working with a variety of OEMs to integrate our energy measurement solutions into a range of applications that will enable consumers and businesses to easily monitor, manage and control their energy usage."

In 2009, Teridian launched the 78M6612, the industry's first energy measurement chip for enterprise and home automation. In early 2010, Teridian announced that they have begun sampling their fourth generation residential smart metering ICs featuring innovative isolated sensing technology. Additional chips will be unveiled later this year.

To handle the increased demand for its products, Teridian recently signed a global distribution agreement with Future Electronics. The partnership taps into Future's global reach to promote and provide technical support for Teridian's products. Future will focus on value added services across all Teridian product lines with a primary emphasis on opportunities for energy measurement in data centers, enterprise solutions and home automation networks.

"Just like a shadow, we're following electricity wherever it goes," said Fitch. "We're excited for the opportunities that this strategy presents and look forward to further adapting our technology to address the growing demand for energy measurement."
