OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Oct. 16, 2013) - While terra20's flagship store's claim to fame is having the most eco-products under one roof (more than 12,000), its second store reflects a shift to a smaller-scale, community-based model that will characterize new Ottawa stores going forward.
On Nov. 2 terra20 will open the doors to its second store, this time a boutique in Ottawa's Wellington West Village, just over one year after launching its first location in the Pinecrest Shopping Centre.
"We wanted to open a smaller concept store, and feel that the Wellington West community is one that cares deeply about health and sustainability. This aligns strongly with our own mission," says terra20 president Bill Stewart. "We also realize how important it is to integrate seamlessly into existing vibrant communities so we made it a priority to integrate community involvement in a number of areas."
- Working with Envirocentre to commission a Transportation Demand Management Plan to generate ideas for terra20 to potentially action in order to respect the Wellington West community's commitment to encourage sustainable transportation within the business district;
- Crowdsourcing local residents to determine which community initiatives terra20 will support;
- Working with a group of local residents to better understand the flavour and priorities of the neighbourhood, and how terra20 can meet its needs.
- Commissioning a Wellington West artist to paint a community board feature within the store (post-opening).
The second location focuses on personal care, cleaning, lunch and kitchen solutions, and cosmetics, based on feedback received from stakeholders.
"Our goal is to open a number of locations within our local communities, which will offer a more focused selection of products that respond to the needs of individual neighbourhoods. The model we've created with Wellington West is one we will strive to apply to all smaller-scale stores going forward," Bill Stewart says.
"We are looking forward to meeting and getting to know more of our Wellington West neighbours, and fulfilling their desire to explore a better way."
