Terrebonne Parish Library System Announces Launch of Digital Media Service

HOUMA, LA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- January 29, 2007 -- Terrebonne Parish Library System (TPLS), www.terrebonne.lib.la.us, is welcoming in the New Year with the launch of an exciting free service -- a digital media collection.

"I am excited at the prospect of patrons being able to explore our library's growing digital collection of fiction, non-fiction, music and video titles," said Mary Cosper LeBoeuf, Library Director.

The easy to use service is powered by OverDrive, Inc., the library's latest digital partner, who is the leading provider for this technology. TPLS patrons with a Terrebonne Parish Knowledge Card can log on to the library's web site from anywhere in the world and click on the digital media link to browse popular audio books, eBooks, music and videos. Digital titles encompass many genres including romance, mystery, science fiction, biographies, foreign language instruction and more.

The OverDrive Media Console (free digital media software) is required to enjoy audio, music and video selections while eBook titles require Adobe Reader or Mobipocket Reader. Once the free software is installed, patrons can check out and download titles to a personal computer, and then transfer to an assortment of supported portable media devices. The cutting edge technology by OverDrive offers automatic check in, so there are no late fees, damage costs, or lost items.

"I enjoy the convenience of burning select titles to CD for listening on the go," Wanda Bruchis, Computer Services Administrator for TPLS, said. "I think it's great that an offshore worker or college student away from home has the ability to enjoy the latest John Grisham or graphic novel."

Available 24/7, your library is always open! Join us as our dynamic parish library system expands its latest outreach efforts to its community. For more information on how you can use this new technology, call (985) 876-5861.
