Tervita Awarded Environmental Remediation Contract at Esquimalt Graving Dock

VICTORIA, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - March 28, 2013) - Tervita Corporation is pleased to announce it has been awarded the Esquimalt Graving Dock (EGD) Water Lot Remediation Project, valued at $38.6 million, by Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC).

The EGD has been used for the repair and maintenance of military and civilian vessels since 1927 and has contributed to sediment contamination in the seabed adjacent to the facility. This project will ensure that the water lot is remediated to meet federal and provincial environmental standards.

"Tervita is proud to have been chosen to complete this important remediation project at the Esquimalt Graving Dock by PWGSC," said Cameron McLean, Tervita environmental services president. "Our range of services and expertise uniquely positions us to restore the environment to its original state and safely dispose of the contaminated materials."

The project involves dredging, dewatering, and disposal of about 140,000 cubic metres of contaminated sediments. Tervita has selected strategic subcontractors including Fraser River Pile & Dredge (FRPD) to complete this work.

"Fraser River Pile & Dredge is very pleased to have been selected to be part of Tervita's team to complete this remediation project," said Tom Lively, FRPD president. "We look forward to contributing to its safe and sustainable completion."

The EGD Water Lot Remediation Project is funded by the Federal Contaminated Sites Action Plan, which is co-ordinated by Environment Canada and the Treasury Board to provide funding to assess and remediate federal contaminated sites.

Work will commence immediately to prepare Tervita's facility and equipment for the dredging activities, which will begin in June 2013 and run until March 2014.
