The 2016 Canada Day Challenge is Here!

GATINEAU, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Jan. 5, 2016) - Department of Canadian Heritage

This week, the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage, launched the 2016 Canada Day Challenge. This annual contest invites young Canadians aged 8 to 18 to express their creativity and the pride Canada inspires in them in the three following categories:

• Draw it! Present a poster, drawing or painting.
• Snap it! Present an original digital photo.
• Write it! Present a short story, poem or essay.

In total, nine finalists will be chosen, and one national winner in each category will be selected. Our three national winners will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to Ottawa for two (the finalist and a parent or a legal guardian) to take part in Canada Day activities. Their work will also be displayed on the official 2016 Celebrate Canada posters. In addition, the winners will have the opportunity to work with a team from the National Film Board to produce an individual short feature about their adventure in Canada's Capital.

The official partners of the 2016 Canada Day Challenge are the National Film Board, Parks Canada, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Encounters with Canada, the Trans Canada Trail, Canada Post, the Canadian Museum of History and the Royal Canadian Mint.

• Participants are encouraged to express in their work what makes them proud to be Canadian.
• Young people can take inspiration from the great moments that have helped shape our country on the Road to 2017.
• It is possible to submit an entry in each of the three categories.
• Up to five photos may be submitted in the Snap it! category.
• The deadline to submit an entry is April 1, 2016.
• Finalists will be announced in the spring of 2016.
• Winning entries will be on display at the Canadian Museum of History from June to September 2016.
