The Abreast In A Boat Paddlers Are Home From the Queen's Royal Jubilee River Pageant!

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - June 13, 2012) -

Our Abreast In A Boat teammates are home from London and will be participating in the Rio Tinto Alcan Dragon Boat Festival on June 16thand 17th. They will have some amazing stories to tell and should be a force to reckon with after paddling over 11 km down the Thames against wind, rain and currents! What an honour it was for them to be invited to paddle for the Canadian Abreast In The West team. The Festival will be held at the Dragon Zone in False Creek across from the Telus World of Science building.

Abreast In A Boat is a group of Metro Vancouver women who have had a breast cancer diagnosis. Come watch these brave women compete and help spread the word that there is life after breast cancer. In addition to racing against other regatta competitors, there will be a special Breast Cancer Challenge Race involving nine breast cancer crews. This race will be held on Saturday, June 16th around 4:00 p.m.

The special race will be followed by a flower ceremony where those who have lost their own personal race will be remembered and where we can encourage those in treatment to know there is life after breast cancer. Counsellor Tang will be the Mayors representative and will read the proclamation naming June 16th, 2012 Abreast In A Boat Day in Vancouver.

What started as a medical study in 1996 turned in to "The Dragon Spirit". Today Abreast In A Boat can proudly claim there are more than 150 registered Breast Cancer Dragon Boat organizations throughout the world, and six crews throughout Metro Vancouver.

We participate in dragon boat racing to make a difference - to raise awareness about breast cancer and to encourage those who have had a diagnosis to live full and active lives.
