The Action Centre Welcomes Dr. Arthur T. Porter

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Nov. 25, 2010) - The Action Centre, a fully bilingual day centre in Montreal for severely physically-challenged people living below the poverty line, is pleased to announce that its 2010 Soirée of Friends Honouree, Dr. Arthur T. Porter, Director General and CEO of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) will visit the Centre to meet its members on Tuesday, November 30.

As Honouree of the Action Centre's recent ninth annual Soirée of Friends, Dr. Porter has already been very vocal in his support for the Action Centre, stating, "Not only does the Action Centre provide essential activities and services to a vulnerable population, but it also empowers people to achieve their full potential despite physical and socioeconomic challenges. Having that level of commitment working within and on behalf of the Action Centre is what makes the fabric of the Montreal community and our healthcare network so strong."

The Action Centre shares this conviction, and is thrilled that Dr. Porter and other community leaders are discovering the extent to which the Centre is a safe haven that promotes members' independence, reduces their isolation and thoroughly encourages their joy of learning and achieving. Dr. Porter will visit the Action Centre at 10 a.m. on November 30 and will have the chance to meet many of the members who participate and benefit from the wonderful programmes and activities that are offered.

As 2010 Honouree, Dr. Porter joined a very impressive group of past honourees from the Action Centre's annual Soirée of Friends, including the late Lorne Webster, Suzan Cavell, the late Pam Dunn, Mary and David Culver, John Rae, Pierre and Lucie Boivin, Richard and Carolyn Renaud, and A.K. Velan. The 2010 Soirée of Friends raised over $200,000 in much-needed funds to support the Centre's diverse programmes and activities.

The Soirée of Friends was emceed by Jamie Orchard, Global TV, and Andrew Carter, CJAD. An amazing silent and live auction was also a Soirée highlight. Guests included L'ORÉAL CEO Javier San Juan and his lovely wife Connie; famed Quebec Producer Denise Robert and Film Director Denys Arcand; Just for Laughs COO Bruce Hills; and Marie DuPont; Director General of the International Economic Forum of the Americas, who donated their time as part of the Classe Affaires™ portion of the live auction that provided the highest bidder the opportunity to shadow these top professionals.
