'The Book of Mormon' Ascends TicketNews' April Events Rankings

VERNON, CT--(Marketwire - May 5, 2011) - "The Book of Mormon" won over theatergoers and ticket buyers alike to become one of April's top selling events. The critically acclaimed Broadway musical finished third for the month, trailing only Taylor Swift and "Wicked" in TicketNews' exclusive events rankings, compiled from April 1-30.

April was the first full month of production for "The Book of Mormon," which opened March 24 at Eugene O'Neill Theatre. Created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone ("South Park") and Robert Lopez ("Avenue Q"), the musical follows two young Mormons on a missionary trip to Uganda. Rave reviews have kept attendance levels at the O'Neill above capacity for eight consecutive weeks and counting.

Sade's upcoming North American tour with John Legend debuted in the April rankings at an impressive No. 4. The nearly 50-date leg, beginning June 16 in Boston, is part of Sade's first tour in a decade. Public ticket sales began in early April for 26 concerts announced at the end of March.

Britney Spears' new Femme Fatale Tour also debuted strong at No. 7, despite an early setback. Spears' planned tour partner Enrique Iglesias pulled out of the tour hours after its announcement. The 26-date summer tour now launches June 17 in Sacramento with support from Nicki Minaj, Jessie and the Toy Boys, and Nervo.
