The Breakaway Group Advances EMR Technology Adoption for Valley Baptist

Ambitious Healthcare IT Initiative Aimed at Improving Patient Care, Safety

DENVER, CO--(Marketwire - August 19, 2008) - Valley Baptist Health System (VBHS), one of the largest health systems in South Texas, has selected The Breakaway Group to lead learning and adoption for more than 3,000 users during an ambitious healthcare technology initiative. The initiative, which includes four simultaneous technology installations and updates, is intended to provide Valley Baptist patients with higher quality care and improved safety and convenience, and provide clinicians with better access to healthcare information.

The Information Management for Physician and Patient Access with Clinical Transformation (IMPPACT) initiative includes implementation and adoption of: Centricity Enterprise, an electronic medical record (EMR) system; Streamline Health, document imaging, management and workflow software; Picis, software that tracks perioperative information; and ImageCast, a radiology information system that enables "filmless" radiology image workflow.

"We're extremely passionate and committed to providing the highest quality patient care," said Dr. Tomas Gonzalez, senior vice president, chief quality officer, and Certified Six Sigma Master Black Belt for Valley Baptist Health System. "The Breakaway Group has unsurpassed experience in healthcare IT adoption. Implementing EMR technology is a major undertaking, and The Breakaway Group will enable more than 3,000 users at Valley Baptist to adopt the technology efficiently, quickly and thoroughly."

To launch the IMPPACT initiative, The Breakaway Group will employ its proven methodology for guaranteed end-user proficiency. This methodology includes leading change, online simulators, and customized programs for sustainability. Valley Baptist, a national leader in the application of Six Sigma methodology in health care, will complement this with a group of approximately 200 "change agents" who have been trained in CAP (Changed Acceleration Process) and who will serve as Ambassadors for the project.

"Valley Baptist Health System is leading the way in integrating the latest healthcare technology and we're proud to be part of such a complex and ambitious undertaking," said Charles Fred, CEO of The Breakaway Group. "Within months, these technology upgrades will provide Valley Baptist professionals with greater access to patient data and will simplify medical records, ultimately improving patient care and safety."
