The Cliffs Wellness Team Certified by Gray Institute

Four Wellness Professionals Graduate as GIFT Fellows From Prestigious Gray Institute for Functional Transformation

TRAVELERS REST, SC--(Marketwired - November 06, 2014) - The Cliffs' Wellness Team graduated from the Gray Institute for Functional Transformation on October 18, giving each member of the staff the respected distinction of being a Fellow of Applied Functional Science (FAFS) -- the most elite personal training certification in the world -- and adding another layer of benefits to the communities' state-of-the-art wellness program.

"This certification gives our membership a unique opportunity to work with expert individuals from all types of educational backgrounds to enhance their well-being," stated Dr. Matt Ort, who serves as the Director of Health and Fitness for The Cliffs. "Through this additional training we have the opportunity to prevent injury by identifying potential limitations in the way our members move and then implement appropriate techniques to improve functionality. Whether it's preparing for a better golf swing or tennis serve, training for a lengthy hike or ride, our practitioners are able to analyze, assess, restore and condition individuals of all levels and abilities. This knowledge gives us the ability to provide an exclusive benefit to Cliffs' members. At the end of the day, our goal is to give our members the tools to live healthier and happier."

To become certified as Gray Institute for Functional Transformation (GIFT) Fellows, The Cliffs' wellness professionals completed a 40-week program that included 300 hours of coursework and more than 90 hours of onsite training from Gary Gray, the founder of GIFT. Graduates of the Gray Institute make up a network of more than 600 professionals in 22 countries. As one of the world's most elite Personal Training Certifications, the expertise of GIFT Fellows have been relied on by United States Military Special Forces, as well as NBA, NFL and NHL Champions. However, GIFT Fellows pride themselves on treating the individual, not the title.

"It is refreshing to know how much The Cliffs invests in its professionals -- that is what makes The Cliffs 'The Cliffs!'" says, Doug Gray, GIFT Program Director. "We are proud to be associated with The Cliffs and its wellness program with professionals that pour into their members on a daily basis to allow them to enjoy life that much more. Not only do these individuals epitomize GIFT Fellows, but they focus on and enhance multiple aspects and dimensions of the individuals they serve."

The Cliffs now has a total of five GIFT Fellows on staff: Dr. Matt Ort, Jolene Puffer, Joan Craig, Vance Ferrigno, and Loretta Keeney. "Our members have varying needs regarding their health and fitness. Among these needs is dealing with pain and injury that disrupts their quality of life," says Dr. Ort. "There are numerous certifying bodies in fitness, but none offer the in-depth education the Gray Institute teaches, specifically the science of how our bodies move and function. Now, with these skills, we are able to make great improvements to our members' daily lives. whether it be refining a golf swing, conditioning for a triathlon, or understanding why something hurts, our goal is to help members live an active and healthy lifestyle."

In addition to GIFT Fellows, The Cliffs' has four certified Nike Golf Performance Specialists (NG360) powered by the Gray Institute. These individuals possess the expertise in Applied Functional Science and specifically how it relates to the complex and dynamic motion of the golf swing. NG360 programs are designed to reduce golf handicaps and the potential of injury and pain, while increasing strength, endurance and flexibility. This unique and highly admired credential is a rare find with only four specialists located in South Carolina, all of which are at The Cliffs.
