The Climate is Right for Trains: Bombardier, A Proud Sponsor of Car Free Day

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Sept. 20, 2007) - Undeniably, rail's time has come again. With the whole world acutely aware of greenhouse gas emissions and global warming, people everywhere are seeing just how much urban congestion is costing our environment, productivity and quality of life. Citizens are now engaged, demanding better mobility and cleaner, greener transit solutions. In short, the climate could never be more right for trains and Bombardier. Bombardier is therefore proud to support Car Free Day, Montreal's initiative inviting the population to use more environmentally responsible and respectful means of transportation. September 20 is Car Free Day in Montreal. Come and discover a life-size model of a Bombardier Light Rail Vehicle (LRV) that will be showcased on Sainte-Catherine Street (close to Philips Square) from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm.

Montrealers who remember the tramway from the 50s will be surprised how design and technologies have advanced since the good old days. Bombardier's display for Car Free Day is a representation of state-of-the-art LRVs now operating in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Cities around the world are choosing LRVs to improve mobility. Here in Quebec, an LRV system is included in Montreal's Transportation Plan introduced this spring. New LRVs feature far greater comfort and safety, low-floor accessibility, ease of entry and exit, along with standard modern characteristics such as electronic stop boards, air conditioning and bike racks.

Bombardier also takes the opportunity of Car Free Day to invite everyone interested in sustainable transportation solutions to visit its new web site:

The user-friendly site shows the considerable advantages trains can offer to today's society, providing links to studies, facts and information documenting the value rail transit can provide to society. It shows how public transportation and trains contribute to improved mobility, cleaner air and enhanced quality of life. Explore links to notorious sources, articles and studies generated by reputable international entities. The climate could not be more right for trains!
