The Copper Penny Foundation

The 'I See A Star' Concert Benefit Gala & Auction 2006

Attention: Arts/Entertainment Editor, Assignment Editor, Food/Beverage Editor, Home/Garden Editor, Lifestyle Editor TORONTO,ONTARIO, MEDIA ADVISORY--(CCNMatthews - Nov. 20, 2006) - Romelda Morson and Lorraine Parow first met in 2000 while volunteering with the Toronto Star Santa Claus Fund. Romelda, as the Coordinator for The Metropolitan Community Church of Toronto Depot, and Lorraine as a delivery volunteer. Romelda needed drivers to help deliver, and Lorraine needed to give to children just as she had been given to as a child. Both remain as volunteers with The Santa Claus Fund today, and have continued to not only volunteer together, but also work together on special projects as creative freelancers.

In 2005, Romelda wanted to help raise money to fill the Star Boxes, and enlisted the support of her long-time volunteer Lorraine Parow and others to create their first holiday fundraising concert, "I See A Star Benefit Concert Gala & Auction." The event successfully donated 1,944,731 pennies to The Toronto Santa Claus Fund. Not long after, they established The Copper Penny Foundation to further their joint commitment to better the lives of the most vulnerable and voiceless among us - children - and "help bring positive change to their lives, one penny at a time" Parow affirms.

This year, on Friday December 1st at the St. Lawrence Centre, Jane Mallett Theatre, The Copper Penny Foundation is holding the 2nd Annual I See A Star Benefit Concert Gala & Auction, which has become their premier annual event. The night will begin with a Gala Reception and mini silent auction, and will continue with a seasonal concert performance by Quartette and The MCCToronto Choir. A live auction will be held throughout the evening with host, noted comedienne, television personality and writer Maggie Cassella. The Copper Penny Foundation will be donating the proceeds to The Children's Wish Foundation to help grant the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses.

"This event is the perfect launch to the holiday season," says Morson, "helping to make a child's wish come true."
