The Countess of Wessex is the patron of UHN's Toronto General Hospital and Toronto Western Hospital and the Toronto General & Western Hospital Foundation. The scope of research and complexity of patient care at UHN has made it a national and international source for discovery, education and patient care. It has the largest hospital-based research program in Canada, with major research in transplantation, cardiology, neurosciences, oncology, surgical innovation, infectious diseases, regenerative medicine and genomic medicine. UHN is a teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Toronto.

Toronto General & Western Hospital Foundation raises funds for research, education and the enhancement of patient care at Toronto General Hospital and Toronto Western Hospital as well as for their respective research arms, Toronto General Research Institute and Toronto Western Research Institute. The Foundation's vision is to enable global leadership and innovation in health by developing and sustaining strong relationships with University Health Network stakeholders.

Media are invited to attend a photo opportunity of The Countess at the tribute to Peter Munk Cardiac Centre Staff on Monday, November 21 at 19:00h.
