The Future Is Ours: Youth Take a Stand to Affect Positive Change

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - April 2, 2012) -

Editors Note: There is a PSA and photo associated with this press release.

The Youth Advocacy Training Institute (YATI), a program of the Ontario Lung Association, has created a 30 second public service announcement (PSA) called "The Future is Ours", which features Ontario youth inspiring others to take action and become advocates for health in their own communities. The youth, many of whom helped to plan the PSA, were also offered opportunities to become involved with YATI as Youth Ambassadors-from advocating against big tobacco marketing, to developing messages of empowerment and change.

Take a stand. Be heard.

Since its inception, YATI has engaged over 8,000 youth and adults in learning, advocacy and change for a healthier Ontario. "Youth in Ontario are passionate about taking control of their future," says YATI Program Manager Sarah Butson. "YATI helps to direct that energy and passion to improve the health of communities through education, partnership, advocacy and positive youth development."

At a local level, YATI provides training and support to youth groups regarding the creation of tobacco-free sport and recreation settings, smoke-free movies, media literacy, influencing public policy, and how to create effective health promotion campaigns amongst other exciting initiatives.

YATI offers a number of services including youth training, adult training, keynote speaking, youth conferences, team building and consultation to organizations trying to build youth engagement and health programs.
