The Government of Canada Supports Arts Alive! Festival

EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - July 17, 2008) - Edmonton area residents and visitors will be able to enjoy the Arts Alive! Festival, thanks to an investment by the Government of Canada.

Peter Goldring, Member of Parliament (Edmonton East), on behalf of the Honourable Josee Verner, Minister of Canadian Heritage, Status of Women and Official Languages and Minister for La Francophonie, today announced funding for the Arts On The Ave Edmonton Society.

Funding of $7,000 will enable the Arts On The Ave Edmonton Society to hold the Arts Alive! Festival from September 26 to 28, 2008. Numerous activities on the program include musical entertainment, theatre performances, children's workshops, and art exhibitions.

"The Government of Canada is pleased to provide financial support to the Arts On The Ave Edmonton Society," said Minister Verner. "We are proud to partner with communities that organize activities celebrating local history, arts, and heritage."

"Festivals such as this one bring people of all ages and backgrounds together and contribute to building strong communities," said Mr. Goldring. "I am proud that our Government encourages such activities to strengthen our shared sense of heritage."

"Arts on the Ave is thrilled to have the support of Canadian Heritage," said Scott Peters, Vice-President of the Arts On The Ave Edmonton Society. "This will be the third year of our multi-disciplinary arts festival, ArtsAlive!, and the support of the federal government allows us to continue. We look forward to many years of working together with Canadian Heritage to create a rich cultural environment, not just for Edmontonians, but for all Canadians."

The Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program, announced in September 2007, provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in activities that present local arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage. This program will benefit many community events and celebrations throughout Canada this year.
