The Government of Canada Supports Festival Place Society

SHERWOOD PARK, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - July 2, 2008) - Residents and visitors to Sherwood Park will have a chance to enjoy the Festival Place Society artistic series, thanks to an investment by the Government of Canada.

Ken Epp, Member of Parliament (Edmonton-Sherwood Park),on behalf of the Honourable Josee Verner, Minister of Canadian Heritage, Status of Women and Official Languages and Minister for la Francophonie, today announced funding for the Festival Place Society.

The $55,000 in funding will allow the Society to enhance artistic and community programming for its 2008-2009 season.

"The Government of Canada is committed to supporting this project and facilitating Canadians' access to the arts and culture," said Minister Verner. "This support also reflects the important role the arts play in communities across Canada."

"The Festival Place Society must have access to resources that enable it to offer enriching cultural activities," said Mr. Epp. "Today's funding will allow this Society to continue its unique programming enjoyed by the audience of Edmonton-Sherwood Park and the vicinity."

"Financial support from the Department of Canadian Heritage has had significant and positive impacts upon Festival Place such as an enhanced planning cycle with defined priorities and an increased diversity of artists," said Gavin Farmer, General Manager of the Festival Place Society. "Canadian Heritage with our Provincial, Municipal and private funders has allowed Festival Place to become the most successful and dynamic small soft seat venue in Alberta."

The Government of Canada has provided this funding through the Arts Presentation Canada Program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program gives Canadians increased access to the diversity and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals, presentations of live professional performances, and other artistic experiences.
