The Government of Canada Supports New Recreational Facility in the GTA

Project supported through the Building Canada Fund


TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - July 31, 2015) -

The Member of Parliament for York Centre, Mark Adler, and the Board Chair of the UJA Federation, Morris Perlis, today announced funding of up to $10.2 million for the Sherman Campus Project under the Building Canada Fund - Major Infrastructure Component. Once complete, this project will help meet the increasing needs of one of Canada's fastest growing communities by providing Toronto families with access to a range of recreational, cultural, health, and social services.

This project will see the construction of a new recreational facility open to the public at the Sherman Campus, in the Greater Toronto Area. The new facility will include fitness and aquatic centres, cultural arts programming facilities and additional community space, as well as outdoor recreational facilities for the community.

Since 2006, the Government of Canada has made an unprecedented level of investment in infrastructure, which supported hundreds of community centers, library, pools, trails and rinks, where friends and families can spend time together.

  • The Government of Canada has selected this project for funding consideration of up to $10,211,555 through the Building Canada Fund's - Major Infrastructure Component. This funding is conditional on the project meeting applicable federal eligibility requirements with respect to the Building Canada Fund.
  • The Jewish Community Properties of Greater Toronto is responsible for the remaining project costs.
