The Government of Canada Supports ParticipACTION

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 26, 2009) - The Honourable Gary Lunn, Minister of State (Sport), today joined in the launch ceremony of ParticipACTION's "Inspire the Nation" campaign. It will reach out to Canadians from coast to coast to coast and inspire them to take action and embrace an active, healthy lifestyle.

"Our Government recognizes the hard work and effort of ParticipACTION to challenge Canadians from across the country to recognize the power of fitness and sport," said Minister of State Lunn. "We are proud to support ParticipACTION and their goal to get Canadians moving."

"There are many simple ways for Canadians of all ages to be active and healthy," added Minister of State Lunn. "Our Government supports policies and programs like ParticipACTION that help improve the health of Canadians through regular physical activity, sport participation, and healthy eating."

ParticipACTION's "Inspire the Nation" Campaign will be hosted in partnership with local community organizations, such as YMCAs and municipal recreation departments. Events will include a mobile video booth where Canadians can record their own stories of the ways in which they get active, the distribution of pedometers, and ambient media installations that encourage people to get active.

Since 2007, the Government of Canada has provided $8.5 million to ParticipACTION to help the initiative reach its objectives. We recognize sport as an important part of everyone's life and believe that promoting each child's healthy development in a sport or physical activity will result in a healthier, more active Canada.
