The Government of Canada Supports Quebec City Summer Festival

QUEBEC CITY, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Feb. 22, 2008) - The Honourable Josee Verner, Minister of Canadian Heritage, Status of Women and Official Languages, today announced funding for the 2008 Quebec City Summer Festival.

Festival organizers will receive $550,000 for the 41st edition of the Festival, which will take place from July 3 to 13, 2008.

"I am certain that the Quebec City Summer Festival will entertain residents of Quebec and visitors from across Canada and around the world, who will join us in celebrating Quebec City's 400th anniversary," said Minister Verner. "The Government of Canada is proud to support the Festival, one of the most important events on the capital's cultural scene."

"I welcome Minister Verner's announcement with enthusiasm," said Louis Philippe Baillargeon, Chair of the Quebec City Summer Festival." This additional financial support from the Government of Canada will help strengthen the Festival's program content and, consequently, attract new audiences and generate economic and tourism benefits for the capital. It's a formula that has obviously proven its worth over the past years."

The Quebec City Summer Festival is a special meeting place where audiences, renowned international performers, and young emerging artists come together.

The Government of Canada has provided this funding through the Arts Presentation Canada Program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program gives Canadians increased access to the diversity and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals, presentations of live professional performances, and other artistic experiences.
