The Government of Canada Supports REPORT Magazine

EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - March 27, 2009) - On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, the Honourable Rona Ambrose, Minister of Labour and Member of Parliament (Edmonton-Spruce Grove), today announced funding to support the creation of Canadian editorial content in REPORT Magazine.

"The periodical industry is a vital cultural sector in Canada," said Minister Moore. "It is important to support public affairs magazines. With our new Canada Periodical Fund, we are contributing to the vitality and the initiative that make our publishing industry more competitive."

"The Government of Canada is proud to support editorial content that promotes Canadian ideas, history, and culture," said Minister Ambrose. "We are committed to the preservation of our heritage and the promotion of our values to keep our identity strong now and in the future."

"We are very much appreciative to the federal government for helping promote Canadian culture," said Curtis Stewart, President of CanMedia Inc. "If it was not for assistance like this, many publications would not be able to exist. Not only does this help promote Canadian heritage, it also helps keep employment in Canada."

The Government of Canada has provided $27,124 in funding under the Support for Editorial Content component of the Canada Magazine Fund. The Government announced that it would maintain its support to Canadian magazines through the creation of the Canada Periodical Fund, a modern, streamlined program that will replace the Canada Magazine Fund and the Publications Assistance Program. This new fund, which will be launched in 2010-2011, will help magazines, such as REPORT Magazine, reflect Canadian voices and interests for years to come.
