The Government of Canada Supports the Festival Lorettain

L'ANCIENNE-LORETTE, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Aug. 11, 2008) - Residents and visitors to L'Ancienne-Lorette will be able to participate in artistic events organized through the Festival Lorettain, thanks to an investment by the Government of Canada.

The Honourable Josee Verner, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Status of Women and Minister for La Francophonie, today announced funding for the Festival Lorettain.

Funding of $10,000 will support the artistic activities of 3rd Festival Lorettain, which will take place August 15 to 16. The event will include activities for the whole family as well as presentations highlighting local artists. It will also showcase the region's leisure activities.

"The Government of Canada is pleased to announce funding for the Festival Lorettain," said Minister Verner. "We are proud to partner with communities to support activities that celebrate local history, arts, and heritage."

"The Festival Lorettain Ad Hoc Committee would like to thank Canadian Heritage for the financial assistance it has provided," said Raymond Baribeau, member of the Festival Lorettain 2008 Ad Hoc Committee. "This grant will initially allow us to improve our event's visibility. As well, the contribution will help us focus more attention on the region's next generation of artists. It will also allow us to secure the festival's future. Once again, thank you!"

The Government of Canada has provided this funding through the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program, announced in September 2007, provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in activities that present local arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage.

Applications for funding for festivals to be held between January 1 and August 31, 2009, and for community historical commemorations between January 1 and December 31, 2009, must be received by September 1, 2008.
