The Government of Canada Supports the Festival of the Sound

PARRY SOUND, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 15, 2009) - On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, the Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Industry and Member of Parliament (Parry Sound-Muskoka), today announced funding for the Festival of the Sound to support its 2009 edition, which also marks its 30th anniversary season.

From July 17 to August 9, the Festival will showcase both Canadian and international artists in unique musical collaborations, as well as educational programs for all ages and opportunities for interaction between the performers and audiences.

"Our Government is proud to support the Festival of the Sound," said Minister Moore. "This annual summer celebration of music showcases the creativity and talent of classical artists from around the world."

"The Festival of the Sound is a tremendous asset to the cultural landscape of Parry Sound and to the economic vitality of this region," said Minister Clement. "Congratulations to the Festival of the Sound on 30 years of exceptional musical programming."

"With the support of the federal government since 1989-our 10th season-the Festival has grown into one of Canada's most respected arts organizations, with more than 60 events and attendance totalling 15,000 annually."

The Government of Canada has provided $120,000 through the Arts Presentation Canada program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program gives Canadians increased access to the diversity and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals, presentation of live professional performances, and other artistic experiences.
