The Government of Canada Supports Theatre La Rubrique

JONQUIERE, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - April 21, 2009) - On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, the Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of National Revenue, Minister of State (Agriculture), and Member of Parliament (Jonquiere-Alma), today announced funding for Theatre La Rubrique's project, "New box office service - New website - Online ticket sales."

With this funding, the Government of Canada will contribute to this project, which is a follow-up to the computerized ticketing and networking for presenters project supported in 2008-2009. Through the "New box office service - New website - Online ticket sales" project, Theatre La Rubrique aims to optimize the operations of its new ticketing system. The organization will be able to improve its financial self-sufficiency and implement best management practices. The project was designed to develop an Internet interface for online ticket sales, produce promotional tools, and train staff working directly with ticketing system users.

"Our Government is honoured to support Theatre La Rubrique, which is recognized for both the quality of its productions and its social commitment," said Minister Moore. "We are all the more proud to be associated with an organization that is taking the necessary steps to improve its financial self-sufficiency."

"The team at Theatre La Rubrique works together with many other theatre companies and is a shining presence in the region's cultural scene and elsewhere in Canada. The development of an online box office is an additional way of bringing in new audiences," said Minister Blackburn. "Let's hope that many spectators will make use of this new service!"

"Theatre La Rubrique would like to thank the Government of Canada for its invaluable cooperation," said Lyne L'Italien, Executive Director. "Its generous support will allow a growing number of spectators of all ages and backgrounds to attend quality theatre and discover the world of arts and culture."

La Rubrique is an important player in the cultural and social scene in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region. Its activities include producing, presenting, and training for various client groups. It has a solid reputation in the community and among those involved in culture.

The Government of Canada is providing funding of $14,873 through the Capacity Building component of the Canadian Arts and Heritage Sustainability Program. This program of the Department of Canadian Heritage aims to strengthen organizational effectiveness and build the capacity of arts and heritage organizations.
