The Governor General Announces 106 New Appointments to the Order of Military Merit

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 24, 2008) - Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaelle Jean, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, announced today the appointment of 106 members of the Canadian regular and reserve forces to the Order of Military Merit.

The recipients will receive their insignia during an investiture ceremony, which will be held at a later date.

The Order of Military Merit was created in 1972 to recognize meritorious service and devotion to duty by members of the Canadian Forces. The Order has three levels of membership: Commander (C.M.M.), Officer (O.M.M.) and Member (M.M.M.). The appointments include six commanders, 32 officers and 68 members. The information in this press release was provided by the Department of National Defence and reflects the rank and posting of the members at the time of their nomination. The appointments have been in effect since October 2, 2007.
