The Governor General Shares her Thoughts on the Place the Arts Hold in our Lives

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 12, 2008) - Her Excellency, the Right Honourable Michaelle Jean, Governor General of Canada, launched a dialogue on the place that the arts hold in our daily lives in a video blog. The video blog was presented this morning on the Citizen Voices Web site (www.citizenvoices.gg.ca), during the Governor General's Performing Arts Awards Foundation press conference. The 2008 Governor General's Performing Arts Awards recipients were also announced during the press conference.

"To go to a concert or the theatre, to watch a movie, listen to an album, or watch a story unfold in dance, this is what it means to live life more passionately, for our very existence to be enriched by unique, often unexpected and eye-opening perspectives," the Governor General explains in the video.

This year's awards ceremony will be held May 2, 2008, at Rideau Hall. In keeping with the new tradition, the Governor General and Mr. Jean-Daniel Lafond have invited the award recipients and other leading figures in the performing arts to take part in an Art Matters forum at Rideau Hall earlier that day.

The recipients will also be invited to contribute blogs to www.citizenvoices.gg.ca. Internet users will then be able to post their reactions and discuss the blogs in the forums.

Information about the Governor General's Performing Arts Awards and the recipients is available at: www.bce.ca/ggawards.
