The Greenburg Family Raises Over $1M for LA Walk Now for Autism Speaks

Team Greenbean Is the #1 Autism Speaks' Walk Team in the Nation

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - Apr 2, 2012) - Empowered by their son Tyler, age nine, who was diagnosed with autism at age two, Ari Greenburg and wife Andrea Lee, Captains of Team Greenbean, have led their Los Angeles Walk Now for Autism Speaks' team to raise over $1M for autism in six years, making Team Greenbean the top fundraising Autism Speaks' walk team in the nation.

Named as 2012 Honorary Walk Chairs, Lee and Greenburg, a television packaging agent and board member at WME, the largest talent agency in the world, and an Autism Speaks' board member, will walk for autism for a seventh year, during the 10th Anniversary Los Angeles Walk Now for Autism Speaks to be held Saturday, April 21, 2012 at the Pasadena Rose Bowl.

Gaining support from individuals in the entertainment industry, Team Greenbean co-captains include 20th Century Fox TV vice-president Lisa Katz and WME partner Cori Wellins, who have raised tens of thousands of dollars for autism.

Using the power of storytelling, Greenburg and Lee garner support, enlist team members and raise funds for Team Greenbean through personal outreach, such as writing passionate letters of Tyler's story of autism. Greenburg's emails begin in March each year, and reach over 10,000 individuals -- mainly members of the creative community and television industry.

"We are inspired and thrilled by how many people have joined Team Greenbean," says Andrea Lee. "We share Tyler's story, the good, bad, ugly and bittersweet, and it ignites a ripple effect of support throughout family, friends, local communities and social networking."

Team Greenbean's 2011 stats included:

  • 1,390 individual donors
  • 156 walkers
  • 21% growth over 2010
  • $330,448 raised in 2011 alone
  • Six year total was $1,078,698 raised

"Team Greenbean started out as a cute nickname and a small effort to support three-year old Tyler," says Ari Greenburg. "Thousands of people have joined our group; either to show their solidarity with our son, or to speak up for an affected friend or relative. All we do is share the story, and people dive in to help."
