The Kit, a division of Toronto Star Newspapers Limited, is gearing up to take its unique, multi-platform fashion and beauty brand to the next level with the appointment of Christine Loureiro as its new Editor-in-Chief.

The Kit, which includes a weekly newspaper feature, an interactive magazine, Kit Chat and Kit Catch-Up e-newsletters and TheKit.ca, imparts authoritative, chic and helpful information to its growing audience of Canadian women.

Loureiro, formerly Deputy Life Editor at the Toronto Star, will work with The Kit's team of seasoned fashion and beauty experts to bridge the brand platforms, leveraging its growing position in the Canadian media market. Loureiro joined the Toronto Star in 2007 after completing a journalism degree at the University of King's College in Halifax. As Deputy Life Editor, she worked with some of the most talented lifestyle writers in the country to consistently deliver top-quality news and feature stories.

The Kit's publisher Giorgina Bigioni says: "Christine will be refreshing our creative mandate with new ideas to bring our audience the type of engaging, how-to-itive info they've come to rely on. She's just what The Kit needs right now: a smart journalist with a great eye and passion for beauty and fashion."

A highlight of Loureiro's career includes the Toronto Star's multimedia coverage of Toronto fashion week, which featured the industry's most respected photographers and fashion critics.

"Working with Christine at the Toronto Star this past year has been a joy," says Jeanne Beker, The Kit contributing editor and a Toronto Star columnist. "I'm forever impressed by her easygoing nature, sharp focus and the fact that she always just 'gets it.' I can't wait to work with Christine at The Kit and look forward to all the edge and enthusiasm she's bound to bring to the publication."

The Kit's September 2012 interactive magazine will be published on August 22 and promises readers all the best in fall fashion and beauty trends. Readers will also find exciting Toronto International Film Festival stories and red-carpet coverage in The Kit's September newspaper features and on www.TheKit.ca.

"You can expect The Kit to offer creative ideas and engaging stories for women who are interested in looking and feeling great," Loureiro says. "Readers will want to take The Kit shopping with them and it will continue to play the part of their best friend and confidant. Our editors tap into high fashion, popular culture and readers for inspiration, which makes The Kit's features completely approachable whether you are a 30-year-old woman in Toronto or a 50-year-old woman from Vancouver."
