The Legend Lives On at the 24th Annual Hank Snow Tribute

LIVERPOOL, NOVA SCOTIA--(Marketwired - Aug. 7, 2014) - Department of Canadian Heritage

The Friends of Hank Snow Society will receive $8,100 in funding under the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program to celebrate the 24^th Annual Hank Snow Tribute.

Gerald Keddy, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of National Revenue and for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and Member of Parliament (South Shore-St. Margaret's), made the announcement today on behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.

The 24^th Annual Hank Snow Tribute will be presented in Liverpool from August 14 to 17. The tribute features musical performances by local artists and celebrates the country music legacy of the late Hank Snow.

• Clarence Eugene "Hank" Snow was born on May 9, 1914, in the sleepy fishing village of Brooklyn on Nova Scotia's South Shore, just down the tracks from Liverpool.
• His professional career started in 1933 at CHNS Radio in Halifax, where he had his own radio show. Throughout the 1930s and 1940s, he toured the Maritimes and Western Canada and played at county fairs and local radio stations.
• In 1936, he made his first recording in Montréal with RCA Victor's Bluebird label and signed a contract that would last 47 years, the longest continuous contract in the history of the recording industry.
• Hank Snow has had many honors bestowed over his long career. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville in 1979.
• The Hank Snow Home Town Museum is a renovated CN railway station with audiovisual displays, artifacts, and memorabilia on the history and heritage of Canadian country music. In addition to Hank Snow, the museum also features Wilf Carter, Carroll Baker, George Canyon, and others. The Centre is home to the Nova Scotia Country Music Hall of Fame and a special exhibit on local railroading history.
