The Linley Group Brings on Processor Expert Kevin Krewell as Senior Analyst

Industry Veteran Expands Firm's Processor Analysis

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA--(Marketwire - December 15, 2010) -  The Linley Group today announced that electronics industry expert, Kevin Krewell, has joined The Linley Group as a senior analyst. Krewell will apply his more than 25 years of experience in the processor market to increase the firm's processor coverage. He will also become a key contributor to the industry's leading processor newsletter, Microprocessor Report, which was acquired by The Linley Group last June.

Krewell is an experienced editor and analyst who previously spent six years at Microprocessor Report contributing articles on PC processors, server processors, CPU IP cores, and related technology. As an analyst, he was often quoted in the technical and business media, including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, San Jose Mercury News, BBC, and CNet. Krewell has also held engineering and marketing positions at both large and small companies.

"Kevin's diverse background makes him a leading authority on all aspects of the dynamic processor market, from mobile to multicore solutions," said Linley Gwennap, president and principal analyst of The Linley Group. "We believe his successful track record in the publishing and electronics industries will ensure that The Linley Group and Microprocessor Report continue to bring insightful processor analysis to our subscribers." Krewell will report to Gwennap, who also serves as the publication's editor-in-chief.

Before joining The Linley Group, Krewell was director of strategic marketing at NVIDIA, a leader in PC graphics processors, and also director of technical marketing at Raza Microelectronics (now part of NetLogic), a vendor of embedded multicore processors. He spent more than a decade at AMD in roles including technical marketing manager and field application engineer. Krewell led a team that created technical documentation for AMD's PC chipsets. He supported the launch of AMD's K6 and contributed to the book The AMD K6-3D Processor. As an FAE, he worked closely with key AMD customers such as 3Com, Acer, IBM, SMC, and Symbol Technology.

"I've watched the processor industry change dramatically, moving away from general-purpose solutions in favor of application-specific chips that integrate more and more system functions," said Krewell. "I look forward to working with the staff of The Linley Group and Microprocessor Report to give subscribers the in-depth analysis and research needed to formulate strategic product plans."

Krewell understands the needs of engineers, having spent 10 years in product design at several smaller companies. During this time, his projects ranged from graphics displays to shipboard radar systems. Most involved hardware and software design for microprocessor and/or DSP chips. By the end of this period, he achieved the level of manager of hardware engineering at Esprit Systems. Krewell earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Manhattan College. He also holds a master's degree from Adelphi University. He is a member of the IEEE as well as the co-chairman of the Microprocessor Oral History SIG for the Computer History Museum.
