The Millennium High Street Luxury Apartments in Houston Achieve LEED Gold

HOUSTON TX--(Marketwired - Aug 18, 2014) - The Millennium High Street luxury apartments in Houston's Highland Village area is The Dinerstein Companies' newest LEED certified community. The Dinerstein Companies, developers of eco-friendly luxury apartments and student housing communities in major U.S. cities, achieved LEED Gold certification for The Millennium High Street.

"LEED apartment communities offer the most sustainable, healthy, energy efficient living for residents while benefitting the community and environment as a whole," says Brian Dinerstein, President of The Dinerstein Companies. "We are very proud to have achieved LEED Gold, one of the highest ratings for sustainable design, build and operation, for The Millennium High Street."

Utilization of an existing site in a high density area within close proximity to mass transit, retail and restaurants helped the 340 unit luxury apartment community meet LEED design requirements. High Street is located at 4410 Westheimer Road in the Houston Inner Loop near The Galleria, Uptown, and Greenway Plaza.

The Millennium High Street is 18 percent more efficient than energy code requires. Adding energy efficient windows and doors, gas appliances, and heat pumps helped achieve LEED Gold. During construction, Dinerstein diverted over 15,000 cubic yards of waste from landfills.

With an exceptional blend of green and luxury amenities, The Millennium High Street sets high standards for urban living. For a healthier indoor environment, High Street is a No Smoking building with high grade air filters and controlled fresh air ventilation, Green Label Plus carpet and padding, low VOC finishes, and carbon monoxide monitors. Smart Home Systems in apartments featuring Apple TVs and smartphone integration enable residents to control lighting and thermostat, as well as entertainment and media, with a home automation app.

In partnership with NRG eVgo, High Street provides electric car charging stations onsite for residents. The property also includes drought-tolerant landscaping, bicycle racks, a carpooling program, and preferred parking for fuel efficient vehicles. Among other green features contributing to the LEED Gold rating are energy efficient AC, heating and lighting; programmable thermostats; onsite recycling for residents; and ceiling fans in living areas.
