The Missing Children Society of Canada: Public Service Announcement

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(CCNMatthews - May 20, 2005) -

Help us Light the Way Home for Missing Children

The Missing Children Society of Canada marks National Missing Children's Day each year through its "Light the Way Home" awareness campaign, which includes a national door to door canvassing campaign and fundraising events (for details see http://www.mcsc.ca).

In 2004, 67,226 cases of children under the age of 18 were reported missing in Canada.

The Missing Children Society of Canada (MCSC) is a registered non-profit organization dedicated to the search for abducted and runaway children. MCSC provides a comprehensive investigative program called Project: Reunite, free of charge, to assist police and searching parents in the active ongoing search for missing children.

On May 25, 1979 six-year old Etan Patz kissed his mother goodbye and left to catch his school bus just two blocks from his New York City home. In those few moments it should have taken Etan to walk the remaining block, he disappeared. He has never been found.

In commemoration of all missing children, the anniversary of Etan's disappearance on May 25 was designated as National Missing Children's Day in Canada in 1986.

Twenty-six years after Etan's disappearance, we remember him and all missing children by encouraging Canadians to turn on their porch lights the evening of May 25, to help Light The Way Home for missing children. For the families of missing children a porch light shining brightly throughout the evening on National Missing Children's Day signifies the hope we all share for the safe return of their children.
