The New Face of Purina's Community Spirit

Pet Care Company Launches New Fund and Centre

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 12, 2007) - Nestle Purina PetCare Canada, makers of leading pet food and cat box filler, announced today the creation of the Purina PetCare Legacy, and the latest initiative under this fund, a first-of-its kind Pet Community & Discovery Centre devoted to pets and their owners.

According to Purina research, over 51% of Canadian households have a dog or cat. In comparison, Statistics Canada has reported that 31% of Canadian households have children. With pets becoming an increasingly important part of many people's lives, and families, the pet food manufacturer has taken strides to support, recognize and celebrate the role pets play for Canadians.

The Purina PetCare Legacy has been established by Nestle Purina PetCare Canada, as a special fund to support initiatives in the pet community, celebrate the joy of pet ownership and enrich the pet experience through education, programming and advocacy. The Pet Community & Discovery Centre, set to launch Spring 2008 at Toronto's Harbourfront Centre site, is designed to be a pet friendly and pet accessible venue, focused on encouraging responsible pet ownership, providing pet owners with information and becoming a community resource. The 16,000 square foot centre, located at 245 Queens Quay West, will feature dog and cat related exhibits, events and activities for new and experienced pet owners to enjoy.

"People are always telling us about their relationships with cats and dogs in their homes. In most households pets are considered members of the family, and have an important place in our hearts," said Karen Kuwahara, President of Nestle Purina PetCare Canada. "At Purina, we quite simply live by a promise to pet owners - your pet, our passion. Our passion for pets plays an important role in everything we do, and inspired us to create the Purina PetCare Legacy."

Mary Siemiesz, the new Executive Director of the Purina PetCare Legacy and long-standing spokesperson for the Purina Animal Hall of Fame, a recognition program to honour pets that have helped save lives, is enthusiastic about Purina's new approach. Both the Purina Animal Hall of Fame and the company's support of service dog training programs form part of the foundation for the Purina PetCare Legacy.

"I've been fortunate to meet people who have credited their lives to the heroic acts of their cats and dogs. Through our work with service animals, many people have been given not only companionship, but a greater independence and freedom than they might otherwise have known," remarked Siemiesz. "The Purina PetCare Legacy was born from the special role our pets play everyday and helps us to do more for the pet community - helping more pet lovers and their four legged friends."

"Canadians can look forward to more exciting announcements about the Purina PetCare Legacy, and the physical demonstration of our commitment, the new Pet Community & Discovery Centre in the near future," continued Mary Siemiesz.
