The Peterborough City U12 Boys Vie to be Chosen BMO Team of the Week 2011 Champion

Canadians Invited to Cast Their Vote at BMOsoccer.com Through August 15

PETERBOROUGH, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Aug. 10, 2011) - The Peterborough City U12 Boys' team are in the running to be named BMO Team of the Week 2011 Champion and win the grand prize, which includes $125,000 to upgrade their community soccer pitch.

The champion team will also win a road trip to see a Toronto FC or Vancouver Whitecaps FC home game and a $5,000 donation to the charity of their choice. Canadians can log on to BMOsoccer.com to cast their vote. The team with the most number of votes will be the BMO Team of the Week 2011 Champion.

"The Peterborough City U12 boys are gifted soccer players who always have fun on the field. In the last three years, they've won or placed highly in a number of tournaments and have been moved up divisions for their success. Beyond the fun and success, these boys also play for a cause near and dear to many of us. Inspired by the Kawartha senior men's team, the boys decided to wear pink practice shirts to attract attention to the fight against cancer," said Biren Patel, coach of the Peterborough City U12 Boys team.

"The players have since begun to organize birthday party kick-arounds and in lieu of gifts, the team asks that donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. As a coach, I am so proud of the dedication and strong values that each of these young players displays," Patel added.

The boys have printed off flyers and have been handing them out door to door in neighbourhoods and talking to people encouraging them to vote. The team has also been wearing their pink shirts and BMO Team of the Week track suits around town to bring more awareness that they need everyone to vote, not just those from the soccer community! "We are very proud to wear pink to help those with cancer. It would be a great opportunity with the grand prize to be able to donate even more to the Canadian Cancer Society but also to be able to give back to our community and improve our soccer fields for everyone," said one of the players.
