The Point of Sale That Fits in Your Pocket

New Features on Mobile Provide Simplified Checkout, Faster Lines, and Level-Item Analytics

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - Apr 30, 2013) - Square, the company making commerce easy for everyone, today released new features in Square Register, the free app for iPhone and Android devices. Square enables anyone, anywhere to accept credit cards, run and grow their business from their phone. Now merchants can also access item-level analytics about their business and customize their checkout flow.

With more than 16 million iOS and Android devices in Canada, Square is focused on providing the tools people need to grow and manage their business using their mobile device. Square Register's newest features provide businesses of every size access to tools typically only available to big-box retailers. New features include:

  • A customizable item library with the ability to apply names, photos, and price points to each item.
  • Access to item-level analytics for better informed business decisions.

Hairspray N' Gloss, a salon in Toronto, found tracking items manually to be extremely time consuming. "Now that we have our item library at our fingertips, cashing out clients is easier and more efficient," said Cherie Grassa, co-owner of Hairspray N' Gloss. "And since we now can track the items we're selling, we can manage our inventory levels and pinpoint exactly which days we are busiest."

Square's growth in Canada, the company's first market outside the U.S., has exceeded expectations. Gross payment volume over the first six months is 90% higher per capita than it was in the U.S. at the equivalent point in time.
