The Recovery Village Announces Inaugural Healthcare Scholarship Recipient

Arkansas State University Student Chosen From a Field of More Than 300 Applicants Throughout the Country to Receive Academic Scholarship

UMATILLA, FL--(Marketwired - September 12, 2016) - Amanda Graves of Arkansas State University is the recipient of the inaugural The Recovery Village Healthcare Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to a student pursuing a health-related degree in college, and who has an interest in a career in addiction medicine or substance abuse treatment.

Graves, from Walnut Ridge, Ark., is pursuing a Graduate of Psychology degree at Arkansas State University.

The $500 scholarship is sponsored by The Recovery Village, a member of Florida-based behavioral healthcare provider Advanced Recovery Systems (ARS), which operates seven addiction recovery treatment centers in Florida, Colorado and Washington.

More than 320 college students from across the country submitted applications for The Recovery Village Healthcare Scholarship, which included an explanation of why they were interested in a career in addiction medicine and substance abuse treatment.

"Personal experience drives me to pursue educational experience in this specific population with addiction as well as, those diagnosed with mental disorders," said Graves in her scholarship application. "The need for clinical mental health practitioners is clear, as is my desire to create a difference in the lives of this particular population. Therefore, my educational goals include obtaining professional training to become a successful therapist in order to counsel those specifically with mental health and addiction disorders."

The award may be used for tuition, books, or room and board expenses.

The Recovery Village Healthcare Scholarship will be awarded twice annually. Applications for the next scholarship grant will be accepted beginning in January 2017.
