The Rink Opens July 2009: Winnipeg Hockey Changes Forever

WINNIPEG, MANITOBA--(Marketwire - May 27, 2009) - Opening this Summer, The Rink will be Winnipeg's first facility to host both on and off ice hockey training and conditioning in one convenient location. As proud Manitoba hockey parents, Tyler and Brad Rice (of the Rice Financial family), recognized the need in the market and decided to open the first fully privately owned and operated hockey facility in Winnipeg.

"The demand for rink time in Winnipeg for both play and practice is overwhelming," explains Brad Rice. "The Rink will free up space in city rinks while giving the serious hockey crowd a place to train and grow."

Working together with local business partners Tina Jones (Banville & Jones) and Mike Keane (Captain of the Manitoba Moose / 3X Stanley Cup winner), Tyler and Brad will soon open the doors to The Rink and, in turn, complete hockey training in South Winnipeg. Located at 91 Lowson Crescent, The Rink's location was chosen to service White Ridge, Waverly Heights, Fort Garry/Fort Rouge, Tuxedo, Charleswood, River Heights, Linden Woods and other nearby communities, while remaining central enough for those living elsewhere in the city.

The Rink was developed to be accessible for male and female hockey players of all ages and skill levels. For those looking to not only improve their technical hockey skills, but their overall conditioning and performance as well, The Rink will serve as a one-stop hockey shop in Winnipeg.

"Brad and I both have three kids, we understand that convenience is a big priority," says Tyler Rice. "Typically, parents take their kids to a local rink to skate, then to a gym to work out, and then, on top of that, sign them up for hockey skills training elsewhere. The Rink has real ice, professional training programs, goalie training facilities, a full gym plus dry-land training all under one roof."

To facilitate off-season training, programs will run year-round. The dry-land training / gym facilities were created to improve overall conditioning and help players target/strengthen specific areas of weakness to develop the physical edge crucial in today's game.

"The heart of The Rink is our superb full-time in-house coaching team, including: On-ice skill specific coaches with on-site programs managed by Billy Keane (Hockey Canada Certified Trainer) with support from Mike Keane, strength and conditioning trainers led by Amy and Brian Herosian of Pro-Fitness (Pro level trainers), and specialized goaltender instructors led by Ryan Cyr with the Goaltender Development Institute (GDI)" says Tyler Rice. "These companies and individuals are among the best in the business - together we offer a full training system that rivals that of the pro leagues."

The facility's total size is close to 20,000 Sq. Ft., which includes:

- 50 x 110 real ice training surface

- 30 x 30 real ice goalie development shooting rink

- 4,000 Sq. Ft. gym and dry-land facility

- 2,000 Sq. Ft viewing lounge w/ amenities

- Video Playback Viewing Room

Renovations are presently under way with The Rink scheduled to officially open its doors on July 6, 2009. In the meantime, those interested in receiving more information can sign up for our news bulletins and The Rink's early registration list at www.TheRink.ca or by emailing info@TheRink.ca.
