The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua Expands Organic Garden for New Fall Wellness Activities

Award-Winning Resort Doubles Size of Onsite Organic Garden to Build on Existing Sustainability Efforts and Enhance Wellness-Related Offerings This Fall

KAPALUA, HI--(Marketwired - Aug 21, 2013) -  The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua recently expanded its onsite organic garden in preparation for new wellness activities this fall. This multi-faceted project began with the garden expansion and will culminate with a three-tiered fruit orchard that incorporates areas for guests to explore the serenity of the garden and take in some amazing ocean views. "Expanding the garden not only allows us to have the freshest ingredients at the fingertips of our chefs," said Tom Donovan, vice president and general manager of The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua. "It also enhances our wellness programs for our guests through Jean-Michel Cousteau's Ambassadors of the Environment and throughout the resort."

The garden serves many purposes that benefit guests of The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua and the local community. In addition to supplying ingredients for the menus for each of the six dining experiences on property, including our oceanfront restaurants, the garden is also home to the resort's compost area which is derived from hotel kitchen waste. To guests, schools and the public, the garden is a learning center that promotes various methods of sustainable horticulture.

As a complement to the organic garden expansion, the resort is unveiling new wellness-related offerings aimed at promoting the health and wellness of its guests. The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua has partnered with top fitness and dietitian experts to create "wellness week" known as "E Malama Kou Kino... Care for Your Body." This unprecedented resort event will begin October 31 through November 3, 2013 and will feature a variety of health and wellness classes complimentary to resort guests. Further details about the event will be released in early September.
