OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Dec. 15, 2006) - The Ottawa Senators' year-long commitment to community outreach programs throughout the National Capital Region continues this month. The following is a look at the club's community schedule from Friday, Dec. 15, to Thursday, Dec. 21.

Sparty visits Scotiabank Read to Succeed winning classes

Scotiabank Read to Succeed is a literacy initiative presented free of charge by the Ottawa Senators to assist elementary school teachers in motivating their students to read on a daily basis through incentives and rewards. Each month registered classes that reach their reading goals are entered into a draw to win one of six Sparty Parties, which includes a classroom visit from Sparty, pizza courtesy of Pizza Pizza and juice courtesy of Coca Cola. Teachers interested in registering their classes for Scotiabank Read to Succeed or any other Sens@School program can do so by visiting the Senators website at

This week two lucky classes will host a Sparty Party won through the Scotiabank Read to Succeed Program.

Monday, Dec. 18 (1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.) - McGregor Easson Public School, 991 Dynes Road, Ottawa. Teacher: Nadia Naufal (Grades 2/3), 613-225-8033

Spartacat appearances

Friday, Dec. 15 - Bell Sensplex, 12:30 p.m. to 1:15 p.m.

Spartacat will be attending the 3rd annual Ottawa Senators Novice Holiday Classic at the Bell Sensplex, where he will take part in the ceremonial faceoff and awards presentation.

Wednesday, Dec. 20 - Bell Sensplex, 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Spartacat will take part in the graduation day of Sparty's Learn To Skate program.
