The Senators in Your Community From June 6 to June 13

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 6, 2008) - The Ottawa Senators' year-long commitment to community outreach programs throughout the National Capital Region continues this month. The following is a look at the club's community schedule from Friday, June 6, to Friday, June, 13.

Sparty visits Scotiabank Read to Succeed winning classes

Scotiabank Read to Succeed is a literacy initiative presented free of charge by the Ottawa Senators to assist elementary school teachers in motivating their students to read on a daily basis through incentives and rewards. Each month, registered classes that reach their reading goals are entered into a draw to win one of six Sparty parties, which includes a classroom visit from Sparty, pizza courtesy of Pizza Pizza and juice courtesy of Coca-Cola. Teachers interested in registering their classes for Scotiabank Read to Succeed or any other Sens@School program can do so by visiting the Senators website at

Later today, one lucky class will host a Sparty Party won through the Scotiabank Read to Succeed Program:

Friday, June 6 (noon to 1 p.m.)

Pineview Public School, 8 George Street, Athens, Ont.

Teacher: Dianne Johnson, 613-924-2055

During the party Sparty will also be meeting with Heather Knapp-Irvine, a teacher from Pineview who gave birth to quadruplets earlier this year.

Please contact the Ottawa Senators communications department prior to your visit at any of our community events.
