The Senators in Your Community From May 8 to May 13

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 8, 2009) - The Ottawa Senators' year-long commitment to community outreach programs throughout the National Capital Region continues. The following is a look at the club's community schedule from Friday, May 8, to Wednesday, May 13.

Spartacat appearances

Spartacat, the Senators' ambassador of fun, will visit Vincent Massey Park (Riverside Drive and Heron Road, Ottawa) on Saturday, May 9, from 10 a.m. to 10:40 a.m. for the 2nd annual Innovapost Walk/Run for wishes. Also on Saturday, Sparty will appear at the 21st annual M&M Meat Shops Charity BBQ Day, benefiting the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of Canada, (250 Greenbank Road, Nepean, Ont.) from noon until 12:45 p.m. On Tuesday May 13 from 5:45 p.m. to 6:40 p.m., Sparty will visit Ecole St-Jean (1045 rue Notre Dame, Embrun, Ont.) for an open house event.

Spartacat visits Scotiabank Read to Succeed winning classes

Scotiabank Read to Succeed is a literacy initiative presented free of charge by the Ottawa Senators to assist elementary school teachers in motivating their students to read on a daily basis through incentives and rewards. Each month, registered classes that reach their reading goals are entered into a draw to win one of six Sparty parties, which includes a classroom visit from Spartacat, pizza courtesy of Pizza Pizza and juice courtesy of Coca-Cola. Teachers interested in registering their classes for Scotiabank Read to Succeed or any other Sens@School program can do so by visiting the Senators website at

This week one lucky class from each of the following schools will host a Sparty Party won through the Scotiabank Read to Succeed program:

Monday, May 11 (11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.)

St. George Elementary School (130 Keyworth Avenue, Ottawa)

Wednesday, May 13 (11 a.m. to noon)

Berrigan Elementary School (199 Berrigan Drive, Nepean, Ont.)
