The Senators in Your Community From Nov. 14 to Nov. 20

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 14, 2008) - The Ottawa Senators' year-long commitment to community outreach programs throughout the National Capital Region continues this month. The following is a look at the club's community schedule from Friday, Nov. 14, to Thursday, Nov. 20.

Spartacat appearances

Spartacat, the Senators' ambassador of fun, will greet customers at Shopper's Drug Mart (1270 Eagleson Rd., Kanata) on Saturday, Nov. 15, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Sparty will participate in the A to Z Event at Zellers in the Bayshore Shopping Centre (100 Bayshore Dr.), on Saturday, Nov. 15 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

On Sunday, Nov. 16, Sparty will attend the Bayshore Shopping Centre Santa Claus Parade (100 Bayshore Dr.), which takes place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The parade will proceed in the mall.

Minor hockey teams play like the pros

On Saturday, Nov. 15, minor hockey teams will play like the pros as Scotiabank Place hosts several Chevrolet Future Sens games:

9 a.m. - Novice teams from the Nepean Minor Hockey Association

10 a.m. - Atom teams from the Cumberland Minor Hockey Association

11 a.m. - Novice teams from the Nepean Minor Hockey Association

1 p.m. - Atom teams from the Kanata Minor Hockey Association

2 p.m. - Atom teams from the Cumberland Minor Hockey Association

The minor hockey teams will compete in exhibition games at Scotiabank Place, complete with full Ottawa Senators NHL game production including Sens theme music as the players take to the ice, individual player introductions, national anthem, music between stoppages in play, and goal horn.

Spartacat visits Scotiabank Read to Succeed winning classes

Scotiabank Read to Succeed is a literacy initiative presented free of charge by the Ottawa Senators to assist elementary school teachers in motivating their students to read on a daily basis through incentives and rewards. Each month, registered classes that reach their reading goals are entered into a draw to win one of six Sparty parties, which includes a classroom visit from Spartacat, pizza courtesy of Pizza Pizza and juice courtesy of Coca-Cola. Teachers interested in registering their classes for Scotiabank Read to Succeed or any other Sens@School program can do so by visiting the Senators website at

This week two lucky classes will host a Sparty Party won through the Scotiabank Read to Succeed Program:

Westboro Academy (200 Brewer Way, Ottawa)

Sens Foundation receives an award

On Tuesday, Nov. 18, the Sens Foundation will receive the CHEO Foundation's "Order of the Good Bear" Award. Sens Foundation president Danielle Robinson will receive the award on behalf of the foundation. The event takes place at CHEO (401 Smyth Rd., Ottawa) from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The CHEO Foundation recognizes and salutes some of the people who have chosen to make a difference in the lives of children and youth through incredible volunteer efforts in support of CHEO.

Business Achievement Dinner Gala

Cyril Leeder, the Chief Operating Officer of the Ottawa Senators and Scotiabank Place, will be present at the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce Business Achievement Gala. Mr. Leeder has been named as a finalist for the Business Person of the Year award and the winners will be announced on Thursday, Nov. 20, at Tudor Hall (3750 North Bowesvillle Rd., Ottawa). The champagne reception will start at 5:30 p.m., with and the presentation beginning at around 8 p.m.

Autograph Session

On Tuesday, Nov. 18, Senators right winger Chris Neil will visit a local Kanata McDonald's (510 Hazeldean Rd.) to launch the 18th season of the Upper Deck/McDonald's Ice Heroes hockey cards. Neil will greet fans and sign autographs from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
