The Senators in Your Community From Sept. 10 to Sept. 16

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 10, 2010) - The Ottawa Senators year-long commitment to community outreach programs throughout the National Capital Region continues. The following is a look at the club's community schedule from Friday, Sept. 10, to Thursday, Sept. 16.

Returns for Roger's House – Beer Store Bottle Drive

The Sens Foundation is encouraging fans to return empty beer and wine bottles to any of the 74 Beer Stores located across eastern Ontario on Saturday, Sept. 11. All proceeds will be donated to Roger's House, which was the recipient of more than $57,500 after last year's successful event.

Spartacat, the Senators' ambassador of fun, will be on hand at two different Beer Store locations to assist with the return of empty bottles, starting his day at the 3500 Fallowfield Road location in Barrhaven, from 1 p.m. to 1:50 p.m., and at the 499 Terry Fox Drive store in Kanata, from 2:30 p.m. to 3:20 p.m. Sens Foundation president Danielle Robinson will join Sparty beginning at 1 p.m. at the Fallowfield Road location.

24 Hr Tremblant Cycle

The 24h Tremblant ski event enters its ninth year this December and sees teams of up to 12 people ski for 24 consecutive hours in a relay style race. The launch of the 24h Tremblant cycle event occurs this Friday, Sept. 10 and ends Sunday, Sept. 12, at Circuit Mont-Tremblant and the Mont-Tremblant Resort. Similar to the ski event, teams of bikers will participate in a 24-hour relay style race to accumulate as much distance as possible. The Sens team, comprised of people riding on behalf of the Sens Foundation and Senators Sports & Entertainment, has raised $4,575 to date.

Plane Pull Challenge

Plane Pull Challenge 5, in support of Project Clear Skies and the Sens Foundation, is set to take place between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11, at the Ottawa International Airport. The Plane Pull Challenge raises funds for charitable initiatives throughout Ottawa and Gatineau and serves as a key annual event for Project Clear Skies, the airport authority's charitable program. This year's event will look to build upon last year's success of close to $45,000 in donations.

Team Sens, comprised of 25 Senators Sports & Entertainment employees along with family and/or friends, will attempt to pull a FedEx A310 aircraft, weighing 82,500 kg, a distance of 12 feet in the fastest time possible beginning at 11 a.m. Spartacat is scheduled to attend in support of his co-workers from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Senators forward Ryan Shannon will serve as honorary captain of Team Sens.

The Plane Pull Challenge is a fun-filled event for participants and spectators and includes several additional events throughout the day.

Ottawa Senators Faceoff Luncheon

The Senators will host a season-opening luncheon at the Chateau Laurier (1 Rideau Street, Ottawa) on Wednesday, Sept. 15, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Special attendees include Senators owner and governor Eugene Melnyk and Gary Bettman, the comissioner of the National Hockey League. A panel discussion followed by a question and answer session will also take place featuring Melnyk, Bettman, Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson and team president Cyril Leeder.

Senators tee-off at 17th annual Bell/Ottawa Senators Charity Golf Classic

Senators players, coaches and members of the team's management staff will take to the links on Thursday, Sept. 16, at Kanata Golf & Country Club for the 17th annual Bell/Ottawa Senators Charity Golf Classic. Over its 16-year history, the Bell/Ottawa Senators Charity Golf Classic has raised more than $1,220,000.
