The Smith & Wollensky Restaurant Group Announces May Sales

NEW YORK, NY -- (MARKET WIRE) -- June 1, 2005 -- The Smith & Wollensky Restaurant Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: SWRG) today announced sales for the fiscal month May 2005.

Total consolidated restaurant sales for the fiscal month ended May 30, 2005, were approximately $10.5 million, a 2.0% increase from May 2004. Comparable consolidated restaurant sales decreased 4.1% to $9.1 million for May 2005, as compared to the $9.5 million for May 2004. Comparable consolidated sales include only units that have been open for 15 months or longer.

Chairman and CEO, Alan Stillman, remarked, "Memorial Day fell a week earlier in our 2005 accounting cycle than it did the previous year, and it is typically a weekend of below-average revenues."
