The tranSMART Foundation Appoints New CFO & Treasurer

Accomplished CFO, Stephen Johnson, to Oversee Foundation's Finances and Administrative Operations


WAKEFIELD, MA--(Marketwired - Feb 22, 2016) - The tranSMART Foundation, a non-profit organization providing a global, open-source knowledge management platform for scientists to share pre-competitive translational research data, today announced the appointment of Stephen Johnson, CPA, as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Treasurer. In this position, Mr. Johnson will oversee the finance and administrative operations, as well as the development of policies and procedures, economic strategy and vendor relationships, for the Foundation.

Johnson has more than 30 years of financial and operational leadership experience, as well as governance experience serving on the boards and chairing finance, audit and compensation committees for several non-profit organizations. His extensive executive experience has been gained from a broad range of dynamic, entrepreneurial and growth-oriented companies where he built high-performing teams, instituted world-class financial controls and processes, raised debt and equity capital, and led both successful IPOs and merger and acquisition transactions.

Prior to joining the tranSMART Foundation team, Johnson had been providing CFO consulting services to various technology companies and organizations. Before his consulting services, he was the CFO at several industry-leading companies, both public and private, including Centra Software (acquired by Saba Software), Managesoft Corporation (acquired by Flexera Software) and Tervela. Earlier in his career, Johnson held a variety of senior financial positions at Avid Technology and Abiomed. He began his career with PriceWaterhouseCoopers and is a Certified Public Accountant. He earned a B.S. degree from the University of New Hampshire and his M.B.A. from Babson College.
