The Urban Slide Comes to Jacksonville on Riverside Ave

The Urban Slide Will Guarantee Citizens the "Slide of Your Life" With Multiple Improvements for 2016

JACKSONVILLE, FL--(Marketwired - May 05, 2016) - Last year on May 30th and 31st, 2015, a 1,000-foot-long slip-n-slide made its way into Jacksonville city streets as thousands of people slid down in the middle of town to cool off during the summer. For 2016, The Urban Slide plans to do the same thing again with an even bigger slide and a much steeper slope thanks to a new street that they plan to use.

A video of The Urban Slide in action can be seen on their YouTube page.

While last year's slide was two lanes wide, this year's slide coming May 21st and 22nd will have three lanes. This is beneficial for three reasons:

  1. Having a third lane will increase the flow of people sliding down the street
  2. The line length to slide is greatly reduced
  3. More sliding action can be done with less time spent in line

In addition to the new design, the slide will also be three times as steep, and therefore participants will be able to slide three times as fast with less effort needed to accelerate compared to last year. This is all thanks to a new street called Riverside Avenue which will be the new location for the 1,000-foot slide. This road connects with the intersection of Broad Street and Water Street, conveniently located next to a big parking garage.

Other features and amenities of The Urban Slide will include:

  • Food trucks to give out lunch and snacks to participants and onlookers
  • Music which will play beats along the entire slide
  • Store items such as cellphone covers, bags, glasses, inflatables, and more

Participants can purchase wristbands to slide by either registering online or at the event itself. Pricing for these wristbands varies based on how many times one wants to slide as well as how early they register. There are only a few steps needed to register online for this 1,000-foot slip-n-slide:

  1. Go to The Urban Slide's Jacksonville event page on their site
  2. Select the number of times a person wants to slide (once, 3 times, or 5 times)
  3. Hit "Register" and enter information to confirm registration.
  4. Acquire wristband at the event venue's check-in tent on event day to slide.

On Saturday, the slide event runs from 10 AM to 6 PM, and on Sunday it runs from 9 AM to 5 PM. Participants must be at least 44 inches tall to slide. Inflatables are also required to slide and are not included with registration. Participants can bring their own or they can purchase one with registration online or at the event.
