The Weather Network Congratulates Viviane Forest

Visually impaired athlete wins five medals in Whistler

OAKVILLE, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 25, 2010) - The Weather Network and MeteoMedia extend congratulations to Viviane Forest on her spectacular achievements at the Vancouver 2010 Paralympic Winter Games.

Viviane, led by her guide Lindsay Debou, won five medals in total at the games, reaching the podium in each of the races in which she competed. With Debou's assistance, she topped off a successful racing season, which also saw her winning the 2010 IPC World Cup Crystal Globe in Slalom.

"On behalf of all employees, I extend heartfelt congratulations to Viviane and Lindsay on their amazing accomplishments at the games. Their commitment, determination and drive to succeed have all lead to their amazing success on the slopes this season," said Pierre Morrissette, Chairman and CEO of The Weather Network and MétéoMédia. "We are proud to be associated with such accomplished athletes."

Overall, the weather for the Paralympic Games was favourable, fog was a factor for the first weekend, affecting some events. Fog and heavy snow are some of the worst conditions that Viviane deals with during training and competition; these weather conditions can make her vision worse and make the race even more challenging.

Viviane Forest and Lindsay Debou's Medal Results:

  • Gold in Women's Downhill – Visually Impaired
  • Silver in Women's Slalom – Visually Impaired
  • Bronze in Women's Giant Slalom – Visually Impaired
  • Silver in Women's Super-G – Visually Impaired
  • Silver Women's Super Combined – Visually Impaired

With only 4 per cent vision, Viviane, a native of Quebec, is led down the slopes by her guide reaching speeds of up to 120 kilometres per hour. The guide skis no more than four metres ahead of Viviane and provides verbal instructions through the use of a two way radio.

The Weather Network is a proud supporter of Paralympian Viviane Forest through financial support.
