The Woman's Hospital of Texas Commemorates $75 Million Facility Expansion

New Addition Provides Expanded Resources for Women and Infants

HOUSTON, TX--(Marketwire - May 5, 2008) - The Woman's Hospital of Texas (TWHT) -- the only Houston-area specialty hospital focused exclusively on the care of women and infants -- recently commemorated its 145,000 square-foot expansion project with a traditional topping off ceremony. Expansion costs total more than $75 million and include 92 additional licensed beds for a total of 367 beds at its Texas Medical Center location.

Plans for the expansion have been in the works for several years. Slated to open by January 2009, the TWHT facility currently employs 1,200 employees and, with the expansion, will add an additional 250 employees to the Houston area. The expansion will enable physicians to deliver 11,000 babies annually, a goal that increases current deliveries by more than 26 percent.

During the ceremony, employees at the hospital signed a steel beam that was then placed on the building. The event was "topped" off with the placement of a cedar tree, signifying growth and good luck. The selection of a cedar is also significant as it symbolizes healing and protection.

Areas within the hospital benefiting from the growth include post partum, ante partum, labor and delivery, caesarean section rooms and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) level II. The NICU department at TWHT is renowned for its high levels of success with the tiniest of infants.

"This expansion is a reflection of our continuing commitment to women and newborn infants in the Houston area," said CEO Linda Russell. "Offering care for normal and high risk pregnancies is what we do best. From our facility expansion efforts to our affiliations with suburban hospitals such as Conroe Regional Media Center (CRMC), TWHT is growing alongside Houston communities."

Earlier last fall, TWHT formed an affiliation with CRMC known as The Woman's Hospital of Texas at Conroe, which was the first of its kind for Hospital Corporation of America's Gulf Coast Division hospitals, the hospitals' parent company. The affiliation provides women and infants in The Woodlands and Conroe areas convenient access to the highly regarded, specialized services for which TWHT is renowned.
