Whether you are in Canada or across the border in the US, or "across the water", it's not too late to check out great flight deals to celebrating cities. What more of an excuse do you need to take off for the greenest event this year where the famous "Liffey Water" will no doubt flow in abundance http://www2.guinness.com/en-gb/Pages/250.aspx!

Note all our selected cities' parades are on the actual Saint's day - many parades are on the closest Saturday or Sunday before 17th March. The events celebrate the identity of far flung Irish communities around the world with music, dance and other cultural events. Most of all the day is noted for the wearing of the green... green faces, clothes everything including green beer can be found - in Chicago they even dye the river green!

The websites below give details of parades and festivals around the world:

Obviously starting with Dublin, the city celebrates with a five day festival starting on the 12th March and ending with a 2 hour parade on 17th March. http://www.stpatricksfestival.ie/cms/events_parade.html

In the US both New York (certainly the oldest with 2009 seeing the 248th consecutive parade) and Chicago vie to hold the biggest parades - for details see: www.saintpatricksdayparade.com/nyc/newyorkcity.htm and www.chicagostpatsparade.com.

The London St Patrick's Day Parade www.london.gov.uk/stpatricksday/ will again see marching bands from all 32 Irish counties as well as representation from London Irish community, other community groups, sports clubs and schools.

The Toronto St. Patrick's Day Parade http://www.topatrick.com/parade_route.html begins at noon with the procession starting from Bloor and St. George (near old U of T Varsity Stadium). The Parade will continue along Bloor Street down Yonge and finishes on Queen Street at Nathan Philips Square.

In Munich the parade celebrates its 13th birthday www.stpatricksday.de on Sunday 15th March.

When no doubt you down a drop or two of Guinness on St Patrick's Day don't forget to say "Slainte" to your fellow Irishmen - even if you are only Irish for a day it will be a great Patrick's day "coisir" (party). wherever in the world you happen to be!!!!!!!
